IN-DEPTH GUIDE
How to install & take down UV stretch decor
Seven steps from planning your layout to the final check, with photos and video for each one.
01
Plan your layout
Before fixing anything in place, hold the web up and decide how you want it to flow. UV webs look best stretched unevenly and organically rather than perfectly square. Think spiderweb shapes, angled pulls and layered depth.
- Look at the space from where guests will stand
- Uneven, angled shapes look better than square ones
- Consider layering to give the layout more depth
02
Understand the stretch
Your web will comfortably stretch up to 0.5m beyond the listed size. Avoid pulling hard from just the corners. Spread the tension across multiple points for a stronger, more balanced look.
Our hand-sprayed range is finished with UV water-based pigments applied by airgun, along with fixatives and protective coatings. These stretch normally like any other web and the coating won't crack or break from stretching.
- Test the give on one corner before committing
- Spread tension across several points, not two
- Hand-sprayed webs stretch normally, no special care needed
03
Choose your fixings
You can install your UV web using a variety of fixing methods depending on your space:
- Command hooks
- Small nails or pins
- Cable ties
- Tent pegs for outdoor setups
Always make sure fixings are secure but easy to remove if needed.
A note on command hooks: they're convenient, but they often aren't strong enough for a stretched web. The tension in the fabric can pull them away from the surface, so for anything under real tension we'd recommend nails, pins or cable ties instead.
04
Anchor the first points
Start by securing one or two anchor points, ideally not opposite corners. This gives you a base to work from and stops you over-stretching too early. Pull the web lightly and evenly as you go.
- Start with two points, not four
- Avoid opposite corners for your first two
- Keep it loose at this stage
05
Stretch gradually and creatively
Work your way around the web, adding more stretch points as you go.
Use different sections of the web to create varied tension and shape.
Best results come from:
- Multiple stretch points
- Uneven angles
This creates a fuller, more immersive psychedelic effect.
It's completely normal to install, take down and reposition a web several times before you find the best stretch. The fabric has a bit of a mind of its own, and experimenting with your anchor points is part of getting the best result.
06
Adjust and layer
Step back and look at your setup. Reposition any points that feel too tight or too loose.
For maximum impact, layer multiple webs or combine with:
- UV tapestries
- LED lights
- Inflatable decor
- Hanging decor
- Connect multiple webs
Webs can be joined together using cable ties to create much larger installations and cover bigger surfaces. Overlap the edges slightly and tie at several points along the join so the tension stays even across both.
07
Final check
Once you're happy with the look, double check all fixings are secure and evenly tensioned. Your web should feel stretched but not too strained.
- Tug each fixing point gently
- Check nothing is in a walkway or fire exit
- Photograph the finished install for next time

Care guide to keep your decor glowing
Are they waterproofed?
Some webs come with a coat of gloss varnish spray as standard, and on other listings it's available as an add-on at checkout.
The varnish goes on at the end of the making process. It helps the UV paints last longer, protects the glow, and gives a semi-waterproof coating for outdoor use or humid indoor spaces.
The paints are water based, so we'd still advise against heavy exposure to water.
- Included on some webs, an add-on on others
- Applied at the end of the making process
- Suitable for short outdoor use, not permanent weather exposure
Are they fire retardant?
Our webs aren't fire-retardant as standard. On selected listings you can add the treatment at checkout, and Cherise applies professional Flame Tech spray and includes the certification with your order.
Venue requirements vary, so check yours before you order and add the upgrade if you need it.
- Available as an add-on on selected webs
- Certification supplied with your order
- Always check your venue's requirements first
Lighting needed to glow
Webs glow under Ultra-Violet (UV) light - also known as blacklight, so the fixtures you use make a real difference to how they look.
We recommend 80 watt UV cannons for the strongest effect, though power should be in proportion to your room. A small space needs far less than a warehouse.
- 80 watt UV cannons for best results
- Match the power to the size of the room
- Test the lighting before you finalise the layout
How to clean safely
Hand-sprayed and airbrushed webs
These must not be machine washed or fully washed. The pigments are water-based, so please also be mindful of prolonged exposure to rain.
We do offer a pigment protection treatment, which helps preserve the colours and gives extra peace of mind. If your web has this added, you can gently wipe dirt away with a damp cloth.
All other stretch webs
Our pink, green, white, geometric and zebra designs can be used outdoors and machine washed on a cool water cycle or rinse.
Wherever practical we'd encourage hand washing, as repeated machine washing over time can gradually affect the elasticity of the fabric.
- Never machine wash a hand-sprayed or airbrushed web
- Non-sprayed designs can be machine washed on a cool cycle
- Hand wash where practical to protect the stretch
How to store safely
Your web arrives folded and packed so it doesn't tangle. Fold it back the same way after your event and keep it somewhere cool and dry, away from anything sharp.
Webs are made to be used again and again. The gentler you are taking them down, the longer they'll last.
- Fold rather than scrunch
- Cool, dry, and away from sharp edges
- Take your time removing it, the same as putting it up
- Choosing a selection results in a full page refresh.
- Opens in a new window.
